What is special about TUFO tubulars?
Tufo exclusively make tubular tyres at their own factory in the Czech Republic. They are using a patented, closely guarded method of tubular manufacturing that requires no stitching to close the carcasse. This enables them to make tubs that can take pressures of up to 15 bar (220 PSI).
Used in high end models, carcasse contains Aramid fibres to reduce road vibration and increase puncture resistance.
The latest word in high tech tread compound improves rolling characteristics, grip and wear characteristics, again used in the high end models. The Tufo clinchers
What, tubs on clincher rims?Again Tufo have come up with a brilliant solution, take a tub and vulcanise a special strip to the underside which clips into the clincher rim (only available on some of the Road models).
Same tub, same pressure, but you can use your existing rims!
To repair just inject sealant into the tyre through the valve, no need to remove the tyre or the wheel, inflate and go. Takes all of 5 minutes and your hands stay clean.
There is a diverse range for all uses
There is a choice for everyone here. For road-racing the Hi Comp Carbon is very tough and long lasting, but has been robbed of its number one spot by the S3 lite <215 series, especially in the Clincher version. For roads that resemble Paris-Roubaix the Elite Ride is the tyre of choice. The lightest tub for time trials is the S3 lite <135 (or the <125 if you're happy with 18mm tubs), use only on good, clean surfaces; otherwise the S3 Pro is a very good, low budget alternative. The most popular recent addition is the Elite Jet <160; this is of course available in 26" as well as in Clincher version.
The CycloCross range has been completely revamped with two levels of quality, the budget ones come in all black, the 'Flexus' range in black side wall with grey or carmine tread.
There is also a range of ATB tubulars available, as well as Road and ATB Carbon wheel sets with tubulars pre-fitted.
Remember, the thinner the tyre the less well it rolls (at equal pressures), so keep the thin ones for smooth surfaces.
Weights may vary slightly. The '<' prefixed tubulars are spot on (or less), however.
